Why Give to Cancer Research
Raising more than $17 million since its inception in 1947, The University of Chicago Cancer Research Foundation Women’s Board provides “seed-funding” for the most innovative, cutting-edge research taking place in the field today. The hallmark of our impact is that we fund research without a track record. Typically the federal government only provides support when there are results to show. Initiatives funded by the Women’s Board often become the basis for laboratory and clinical trials that lead to new frontiers in cancer treatment.
As one of the country’s premier institutions for the research, diagnosis, and treatment of cancer, UChicago strives to explore and develop innovative ways to prevent and reduce the effects of cancer.
The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of only 42 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers nationwide and is one of only two in Illinois to have earned this prestigious status. This designation represents the highest mark of excellence in basic, clinical and population research, and an institution’s dedication to developing more effective treatments for cancer.
Our researchers have received the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology and the President’s Medal of Science. They apply the latest advances in imaging, molecular biology, information technology, genetics, genomics, systems biology and other disciplines to the study of human cancer.
